Vincenzo Nibali had raced a long and incredibly successful career, and off the bike he will attempt to have a successful start too, as he is reported to be joining a newly formed team for the 2023 season as an advisor for the new team that is in the making, led by former Qhubeka - NextHash manager Doug Ryder.
According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, “Nibali will enter the board as an advisor, will have an active role in the choice of athletes, and will make available his experience in the fields of training, nutrition and performance.” This would be his first role away from pro cycling as a racer - where he's taken countless high-level wins at the top of the sport.
Details about the team are still very limited, however it is known for some months that Ryder has been trying to form a new team into the 2023 season following the end of the Qhubeka structure. The team seems to be set to have it's debut next year, however without much lead as to which riders it could host.
Velonews have learnt that South African billionaire Ivan Glasenberg is likely to play a key role in financing a team that would race under Swiss nationality, with the likelihood of it becoming a Pro Team. More details are set to be revealed in the coming weeks.
