Rigoberto Uran is an absolute superstar back in Colombia and he will lead the famous Giro de Rigo on the 12th of November. Every year he invited big stars of the sport to Colombia to participate and experience the Colombian culture, as is the case with Wout van Aert this time around.
The EF Education-EasyPost rider, who is set to retire after next year's Olympic Games road race, has taken van Aert to a group and in good spirits watch Colombian TV. "Every now and then you have to do something crazy, so to speak," Jumbo-Visma DS Lars Boven told In de Leiderstrui recently in reference to the Belgian's trip to South America.
"Wout has done that before and this fits in with that. It may not even be crazy, because it is also good training and something he will really enjoy. Wout is someone who needs a different stimulus every now and then."
