With that year's fight for the Maillot Jaune well underway, the climb was packed with plenty of supporters. So much so that when one of the camera bikes was forced to come to a halt,
Richie Porte simply had nowhere to go, crashing into the back of the moto, bringing down the yellow jersey of Chris Froome in the process.
With his bike ruined, Froome made the split decision to not wait for his team car to navigate it's way up the climb and through the crowd for a spare. Instead, the Team Sky leader opted to go for a run, carving his way though the gobsmacked supporters in one of the most iconic moments in the modern history of the Tour de France.
Froome was eventually given a bike from the neutral car although that was not to his liking, before finally, the Team Sky car arrived on the scene with an adequate replacement. Froome eventually crossed the line two minutes down on
Bauke Mollema although post-stage, the race jury decided that everyone would get the same time as the Dutchman, meaning Froome retained the Yellow Jersey.
