Over the coming days, the King of the Mountains battle at the 2023 Tour de France is really expected to heat up as the race reaches the Alps. Sitting second in the classification is currently Tobias Johannessen, 16 points behind Neilson Powless.
"Today, it will depend on the breakaway but I'll take as much King of the Mountains points as I can," said the Uno-X Pro Cycling Team rider prior to stage 13 which sees the riders take on the second summit finish of the race atop the Grand Colombier.
Finishing 5th on Thursday's stage 12, Johannessen has impressed in the first Grand Tour appearance for both himself and his team. Being able to top that off by winning the polka-dot jersey would be the cherry on the cake.
"Having a jersey on the Tour de France is something really big!" the 23-year-old Norwegian concludes.
