What level Egan Bernal will reach in his future in pro cycling is an unknown, however it continues to be a remarkable achievement by all accounts what the INEOS Grenadiers rider continues to do, as he set off on an "apocalypses" ride recently averaging 39Km/h for 270 kilometers.
In a video shared on Twitter, Bernal showed off his current pre-season training back in Colombia. This, less than 10 months after his life-threatening accident in which he broken almost two dozen bones and suffered life-changing injuries that were likely to never allow him back into sports. He defied all odds to be back on the bike and aiming at the 2023 Tour de France.
He took the opportunity in his recent training sessions to pay a tribute to his father who keeps up with him during the training rides in a motorbike. "I'm not one to tell you this but... if you have a goal, the conditions don't matter, nor how low or high you are... Fight it!! As bad as it goes, you will be calm with yourselves, and that is the most important thing," he said in a post from today.
Recently, he's further stated: "We all deserve someone to take care of us like my dad did me. My guardian angel on the road. He comes to my house every day when I'm still sleeping to get everything ready for training, and he leaves in the evening when he leaves the bike washed for the next day."
