Stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia had a dramatic finish, with a mass crash taking place just outside the three-kilometer banner. Time was lost for some GC contenders whilst others risked abandoning the race. Martijn Tusveld was one of them and team footage reveals how his bike was literally broken in half.
The team has shared a video following the crash, with team staff emerging from the car and having to make their way into the crash scene. There, Tusveld was already up after being the first rider to hit the deck - but the footage also shows how his bike frame was broken in half. The Team DSM rider was able to make it to the finish and is expected to continue in the Giro.
