Urska Zigart was close to her first win of the year at the
Tour de Suisse Women, the Slovenian was caught inside of the line in a heartbreaking finale and afterwards talked about her feelings towards the almost successful attack.
“Now I know what it feels like. You see it so many times on TV when the break gets caught by the line, and now I’m on the other side. The next time, I’m just going to push a bit harder," Zigart told Cyclingnews after yesterday's stage finale. "I was a bit bummed, there was headwind from the last climb and all the way to the finish, or maybe it felt like that because I was really empty. But it was a good try, and there’s always another chance."
The 26-year old was part of a move that went off the peloton with just over 40 kilometers to go on the hilly stage, and then off the front group she attacked solo with 13 to go. Her valiant efforts almost earned her the stage win, but the peloton still had firepower left for the sprint, and only 100 meters away from the finish line she was swarmed by the fastest. Eleonora Camilla Gasparini took the stage win, whilst Zigart's partner Tadej Pogacar shared a message on social media after cheering for her.
“I just kept on pushing. The power was good, everything was good, but they came with speed, and because it was uphill, they just carried so much more momentum," she explained. "I didn’t look back even once because I knew that it’s not going to help me mentally if I see them ten metres behind me. I just kept on pushing, and one time it will work out."
