In what must have been an agonising finale for Urska Zigart on stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse, the Slovenian rider of Team Jayco AlUla was caught by the peloton with just 100m to the line.
"It was a headwind all the time, which completely drained me," the 26-year-old Slovenian lamented to her team's official Twitter account post-race. "All in all I see it as a good attempt, there will be more opportunities. It was tough enough, but after such a hot day it only got harder."
The stage was eventually won by Eleonora Camilla Gasparrini. Nevertheless, Žigart feels there is nothing more her or her team could've done. “As a team, we did well. You often see on TV that things just go wrong, but now I also know how it feels," she says. "Next time I'll kick a little harder."
Watching at home was her boyfriend, Tadej Pogacar. Posting a picture of Žigart on his Instagram story, the former two-time Tour de France winner captioned, "Inspiration, my hero Urška Žigart. Couldn't be more proud."
