UPDATE | Tadej Pogacar undergoing scan for wrist injury following Liège-Bastogne-Li`ège

A shocking twist to Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the main favourite to win La Doyenne has abandoned. Tadej Pogacar has abandoned the Belgian race early on after being involved in a crash.

Little details are known about the incident however with 167 kilometers to the finish it was confirmed that Pogacar, who was on the hunt of the Ardennes triptych and was the man to beat this afternoon, crashed out. Alongside him Mikkel Honoré also abandoned the race.

This is the first time since the 2021 Giro dell'Emilia that the Slovenian has abandoned a race. For the time being there is no information on the scale of his injuries or whether it can affect his preparation for the Tour de France.

This crash opens up the Belgian race quite a lot, now effectively leaving Remco Evenepoel as the main favourite to take the win, but with many other riders suddenly getting an opening to fight for the title.

Update: In a social media post UAE Team Emirates have revealed that Pogacar has been taken to the hospital where he is undergoing scans on an injured wrist.
