The 2025 Tour de Pologne came to a close on Sunday with Brandon McNulty sealing the overall victory in the final day’s time trial. Antonio Tiberi finished second, Matteo Sobrero third. For Team Visma | Lease a Bike, last year’s winners with Jonas Vingegaard, this edition was less about the yellow jersey and more about chasing stage success, and they delivered twice. Olav Kooij and Matthew Brennan both claimed victories during the week, giving the team two strong results in a race where the overall classification proved out of reach.
On Saturday’s queen stage, Visma’s hopes of influencing the GC ended on the climbs. “Both Olav Kooij and Matthew Brennan gave it their all in the breakaway, but unfortunately, the group never got much space from the peloton,” the team reported. “It proved impossible for them to survive the final climbs of the day. Menno and Attila also put in a good effort in the final group, but there wasn’t much more they could do today.”
Brennan capped the week with an impressive eleventh place in the closing time trial, as he continues to establish himself as one of the most exciting prospects in cycling. “Matthew was aiming for a good result today, and he succeeded,” said sports director Jesper Mørkøv. “Technically, it was a very strong performance. Putting in such a strong time trial on the seventh day of a WorldTour stage race is another great step in his development. He can be proud of this.”
For Mørkøv, the week ticked the boxes the team had set before the race. “It’s been a great seven days for the team. With Olav and Matthew, we achieved two great stage victories. These were achieved through good teamwork. We can be satisfied with that as a team.”
Kooij’s win continued a remarkable streak, it was his fourth consecutive year winning a stage in Poland. “That’s special, of course,” Mørkøv said. “Olav also rode strongly in the penultimate stage, with a lot of climbing. This week is a great stepping stone for him towards the rest of his season. We’re all looking forward to it.”
