Mattias Skjelmose holds the hopes of the Danes going into the 2024 World Championships in Switzerland. Just days out from things getting underway in Zürich however, the Lidl-Trek star has been forced to abandon the Tour de Luxembourg following a crash on stage 2.
"Not a good news from Tour de Luxembourg," writes Lidl-Trek on their official social media pages. "Mattias Skjelmose was involved in a crash after 20km of stage 2. He reported some wounds that prevented him from riding and, as a result, forced him to abandon."
UPDATE
In a positive update, Lidl-Trek's team has given details of Skjelmose's condition to Het Nieuwsblad. "The Dane has sustained wounds to his elbow, hip and knee and was a bit dizzy after his fall. But the team doctor indicated that there is no question of a serious injury." As such, the Dane's World Championship dream is still very much alive.
