Nairo Quintana has recently had a press conference where he has revealed the decision to continue in pro cycling and fight for his career. Although the Colombian climber remains without a contract, it is said that his planned trip to Europe has seen communication with three teams, two of them of World Tour level.
It has been reported by Antena 2 that the former Arkéa Samsic rider finally travelled back to Europe, after over half four months without racing. The trip had been planned, exactly with the goal of communicating and possibly negotiating a contract with some teams for the 2023 season. His third position at the recent Colombian national championships has been a compelling argument that the 33-year old remains competitive.
Within his contacts it is said that Groupama - FDJ, AG2R Citroën Team and TotalEnergies were present. Details are not known however the discussion of a possible contract for 2023 is not out of the table. Quintana had his expected renewal with Arkéa Samsic off the table last year after testing positive for Tramadol twice during the Tour de France.
The sanctions applied to the Colombian were confirmed by the UCI, and that has seen a meaningful complication to his expectations of the future. However, as Quintana looks to battle on, many teams would likely benefit from his presence results-wise, with the financial side likely less demanding at this point of the year.
