Chris Harper was a new signing for Team Jayco AlUla this winter and travelled to Australia, his home country, to start the season. The team carries big goals at the Tour Down Under but he will no longer be part of them as he broke a collarbone and won't start stage 2 tomorrow.
Harper was one of the victims in the mass crash that happened almost in sight of the line on the second day of racing into Tanunda. Helping Michael Matthews towards the front, Harper was involved in a crash that involved several riders. He rode across the line minutes later, but following the stage he was diagnosed with a broken collarbone. Matthews and Simon Yates head into tomorrow's hillu stage in second and 36th respectively.
