On Wednesday, Tom Dumoulin took silver in the Dutch championship time trial. In bright and sunny circumstances, the bikers rode the almost thirty-kilometer circuit in the region of Drenthe.

"I do feel bummed and disappointed about this, I just wasn't good enough to win. After my abandonment in the Giro, I took a lot of rest. I hoped that would help. Due to my back problems, I couldn't prepare the way I wanted to, so I came up short today," the Dutch rider said in a post-race interview. He has announced his retirement for the end of this season, but he still targets strong results in the time-trials.

"Of course, I would have liked to win that fifth title. I'm still giving everything to be able to perform at the best of my possibilities. There's nothing wrong with my motivation because I'm focused on the upcoming races," he added. He finished second, not having been able to put on his best performance, and seeing Bauke Mollema take his first title.

"I want to finish the season and my career in a good way. At the world championships in Australia, I really want to go for it again. I'm still giving everything to be able to perform at the best of my possibilities," he concluded.
