Tim Wellens's start at Tour de France in danger as he misses out on Tour de Suisse

Will Tim Wellens get fit in time for the Tour de France? The Belgian of UAE Emirates is still recovering from his collarbone fracture, sustained in a massive crash in Tour of Flanders caused by Polish cyclist Filip Maciejuk.

Wellens was supposed to take part in the upcoming Tour de Suisse (June 11-18), but this is still too early. At the end of April, Wellens announced that he could (carefully) train again, but two weeks ago he went under the knife again for reasons that are unclear. And that on his 32nd birthday.

Wellens is still fully recovering and will not get fit in time for Tour de Suisse. "It's getting better every day, but I'm not allowed to cycle outside until at least Monday," he now tells Het Laatste Nieuws.

It is now highly questionable whether Wellens can and will be part of the UAE Emirates Tour selection. The 110th edition of the Tour de France starts on Saturday 1 July in the Basque city of Bilbao.
