Primoz Roglic after surviving late mechanical to virtually win the Giro d'Italia: "I put the chain on well and I tried again"

Primoz Roglic has managed to secure victory in the 2023 Giro d'Italia after an incredible final time trial in which he was superior to Geraint Thomas. With his child sat on his lap, Roglic addressed the press and was more than satisfied:

"It's incredible, not only for the victory, but also for the people, it's a moment to have lived it and to remember it. I had fun. All the hope today was given to me by the fans."

His chain came off mid-climb and he lost almost twenty seconds. However, he did not give up and continued pedaling until reaching the finish line with the best time and confirming the surprise over Thomas:

"It's part of this. I didn't think it was all lost. I put the chain on well and I tried again. These things happen, I put it back on like I said. I had the legs and people have given me the extra."

On the last day in Rome, as is logical, he was prudent, although with a smile: "It's not over until it's over, the lap in Rome is technical but yes, it looks good."
