Tim Merlier defeats Jasper Philipsen again to take victory at Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen 2024 in new European Champion's jersey

Soudal - Quick-Step's European Champion, Tim Merlier has taken the victory at the 108th Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen this Friday afternoon ahead of Jasper Philipsen.

Three riders got themselves into the breakaway of the day. Heading into the last 50km of the day though, just Alex Colman and Fabio Christen remained in the lead, still 3:10 clear of the peloton. Lidl-Trek were pulling on the front of the bunch though, and as the kilometres ticked down, the time gap continued to grow ever smaller.

Heading into the final 10km, only Christen remained ahead of the peloton as a big crash ended the hopes of the likes of Sam Welsford, Fabio Jakobsen and others. At around 7km to go though, he too had been brought back. In the sprint for the line, newly crowned European champion Tim Merlier took a definitive victory ahead of Jasper Philipsen and Arvid De Kleijn.
