Fastest time so far for @ThymenArensman in the uphill TT at #TdP22! 💪🏻 17'40" for Thymen, with teammate @marco_brnr sitting 4th at 26" too 👏🏻 Now the nervous wait begins ...
The time-trial was set to be a decisive day at the Tour de Pologne, and sure enough it delivered as Thymen Arensman rode to the win on a day, where the stage win and GC were both very open until the very end as Ethan Hayter took over the yellow jersey.
The hilly route in Zakopane allowed for surprises on the day, with a largely uphill time-trial albeit with most of it being on constant false-flat gradients. It was a day where there was room for surprise, with Magnus Sheffield taking a strong early lead with a time that threatened the favourites and the specialists throughout most of the day.
As the riders arrived at the finish, the gaps were very small. The likes of Ethan Hayter and Matteo Sobrero who were the pre-stage favourites failed to deliver on the result they were said to be in for, but instead the only rider who managed to go through Sheffield was Thymen Arensman of Team DSM, with seven seconds of lead.
Sure enough the Dutch rider went on to win the stage, with a time that no-one else ahead of him in the GC could beat. Sheffield and Hayter wrapped up the podium. However, the real battle was for the overall classification - which most of these riders were part of. The GC fight however say a different story, as Hayter managed to jump into the yellow jersey, with Arensman and Pello Bilbao completing the podium which should be confirmed tomorrow.
