The Supercombative Rider of the Vuelta a España 2024 has his reward after the brutal final stretch of the season he has done with UAE Team Emirates. Marc Soler has just renewed with the UAE team until 2027.
This has been announced by UAE itself in an official statement which also announced the promotion of Pablo Torres, a great jewel of Spanish cycling, who makes the leap to the World Tour with a contract until 2030.
Soler is coming off a stage win on the mythical climb Lagos de Covadonga at La Vuelta where, as has already been mentioned, he was also awarded the prize for the most combative rider of the three-week race. The Spaniard is one of UAE Team Emirates' most reliable men in the mountains, and the team does not want to miss out on his enormous talent.
In the UAE statement, Marc Soler makes his first statements after agreeing his renewal until the end of the 2027 season: "I am very happy to be able to continue with UAE Team Emirates and grateful for the trust they have placed in me," begins the 30-year-old rider, who will turn 31 later this year - in November.
"In this team I find a good balance between personal ambitions and helping my teammates in terms of the race, and it's a mix that I'm really enjoying. The team is going through a very good moment and there is a family atmosphere at every race. I want to continue at the highest level in the coming years and help them win many races along the way," adds Soler, who has been with UAE since 2022, and has been a key part of the team's success both as a gregarious rider and in pursuit of his own victories.
UAE is making a mistake with long term contract for youngsters. None of them are the next Pogi. They each want their own opportunities. As a result there has and will be lot of conflict over who does what in a race. They don't race as a team, as a single unit without Pogi. Even the young riders will realize later that they will not get optimum training or opportunities in a star stacked team. But they wont be able to leave like Ayuso. Visma is doing a better job giving 2-3 year contract and longer terms to key riders only.
Not really. Nobody else has won a GT or a monument other than Pogi
Partly true but, Tadej will not last forever, once he’s out, these guys have 6, 7, 8 years left to replace him, in the meantime they have all the opportunity they need to work towards their peak getting well paid for it. Tadej is not participating in every race, plenty to go around. Visma isn’t doing better this year but that aside, the main reason they don’t have longer contracts is long-term sponsor(ship) incertainty. It’s not because you prefer it that it’s better, only time will tell though. None of us know if he is the next Pogi, we didn’t even know Pogi was the first Pogi (or Jonas the first Jonas) until they really showed it (Remco was a little more expected) but can UAE afford taking the risk of letting him get snapped up by a rival to discover later there is one more Pogi catcher around? No-one predicted cycling’d soon have another golden age after a Sky downfall.
