Having successfully defended her Tour of Flanders WE crown, Lotte Kopecky could joined an elite list of back-to-back race winners, something the Belgian could barely believe.
“This is really special. I did not expect it. It was very difficult," said a modest Kopecky post-race despite the sheer dominance of her victory. "On the Koppenberg it was very slippery and I had to put a foot on the ground. The question then was whether we should continue riding or whether it would be better to wait.”
After Kopecky had eased across the line, arms aloft, her teammate Demi Vollering won the sprint from the chasing bunch giving Team SD Worx an emphatic one-two win.
"The last part was with a headwind and I couldn't pedal the power I had in mind. I wasn't sure of winning either. I had no idea of the lead and you need certainty," says Kopecky. "The fact that we are 1 and 2 again today with SD Worx is really perfect. It's a successful day."
