The colleagues from Carocol TV conducted an interesting interview with Daniel Jaramillo in the preview of the 2023 Tour of Hungary. The Colombian is a former winner of the Hungarian stage race in the 2017 edition, he won the general classification after a huge fight with Tadej Pogacar.
At that time, the double winner of the Tour de France was 19 years old but, as Jaramillo explains, he was already showing his ways: "It is a very nice memory because I have the satisfaction that I was able to compete against Tadej Pogacar. Although at that time Pogacar was very young and just starting out in the sport, 'the firewood' went with him. Sometimes those memories come back to me, when for example I see him win a race, and it's really nice to have been fighting side by side."
Jaramillo talks about the fourth stage of the Tour de Hongrie that year with a finish in Miskolc which ended on a climb. He managed to win it ahead of the Slovenian despite the fact that he attacked him on many occasions:
"I remember that in that queen stage he attacked me and attacked me. I think he attacked me around 50 times, but I kept going and I also hit him like a tick. I thought and said: 'this guy is so young and he attacks very hard , it's going to be very good.' We couldn't interact much, only on the podium and when he was attacking me. We couldn't much either because we didn't speak the same language, but there was a handshake."
