In the battle for the stage win a truly tremendous, 50km solo attack by EF Education-EasyPost's Ben Healy saw the Irishman take a sublime first Grand Tour stage win. In the general classification battle behind, Primoz Roglic became the first of the pre-race favourites to make a decisive move, dropping all his rivals except the INEOS duo of Tao Geoghegan Hart and Geraint Thomas as Remco Evenepoel showed his first signs of weakness in this year's race.
