Mikel Landa is in top form at 33 years of age. The cyclist from Alava is no longer as exciting as he was five years ago, but he continues to be one of the best climbers in the peloton. In 2022 he finished on the podium of the Giro d'Italia and this year he has been seventh in Tirreno, fifth in the Volta, second in Itzulia and third in the Fleche Wallone.
These are results that speak for themselves. His great challenge of the season is the Tour de France that leaves from Bilbao, from his home, the Basque Country, where he hopes to be able to compete with the best and finally achieve a podium that has resisted him until now (he has been fourth twice ). His contract with Bahrain Victorious ends at the end of this season and rumors about the possible teams he could land in have started.
TEAMS IN WHICH MIKEL LANDA COULD RUN IN 2024
- Bahrain Victorious: Re-sign for the squad in which he has been performing very well since he landed in 2020. The question is whether they want to have him as leader again or want to give way to younger riders.
- Astana: He completed two great seasons in 2014 and 2015 with the Kazakh team and would not miss his return as Vinokourov's men are desperate for riders who can give them many UCI points like Landa.
- Trek-Segafredo : Another team that, although it is not lacking in UCI points, does have a more solid leader for the great tours. The profile of a man like Landa, capable of making a life for himself, would be good for them.
-
INEOS Grenadiers : He already raced on Sky in 2016 and 2017, so they know him well. This option is less likely than the previous ones since the British team seems to be betting on younger riders, although if Geraint Thomas ends up retiring, someone with experience and solidity in the grand tours like Mikel would not hurt.
- Euskaltel Euskadi : Mikel Landa has stated on more than one occasion that he wants to retire with his home team. Of course, seeing him in his current form, we believe that he will continue for another year in the WorldTour, or not?
