Einer Rubio took a great victory in Crans-Montana that allowed him to increase Colombia's record in the
Giro d'Italia. The little Movistar Team climber is the latest in a list of 17 riders from the South American country who have managed to raise their arms at least once in the Corsa Rosa.
Since Martín Emilio Rodríguez raised his arms for Colombia for the first time on June 3, 1973, riders of the stature of Lucho Herrara, Oliveiro Rincón, Victor Hugo Peña, Rigoberto Urán, Nairo Quintana, Estaban Chaves, Fernando Gaviria and Egan Bernal have done the same.
The last one to have achieved it before Rubio was Santiago Buitrago, who is present in this Giro, and who will try another victory in the high mountains this year as he did in the 2022 edition. The one who has won the most, Einer Rubio's teammate in Movistar Team, is Fernando Gaviria, who accumulates 5 and who will also try in this 2023 Giro to increase the number.
