Einer Rubio explains strategy after beating Pinot and Cepeda to stage win at the Giro d'Italia: "I had to leave them both and play a bit with strategy"

Einer Rubio has achieved his first Grand Tour stage win and has given the Movistar Team its first victory at the 2023 Giro d'Italia. Withstanding countless of attacks of his breakaway companions, Thibaut Pinot and Jefferson Alexander Cepeda, Rubio kept calm.
"Finally a great day, I had been looking for it, I have worked a lot to prepare for this Giro, the other day I had problems with the weather, the rain was very hard, but I knew that I had to continue, that I did not have to give up, thank you God I got it."

"I knew that Pinot was coming very strong and that Cepeda was also coming well, I just had to leave them both and play the strategy a bit and that's how it happened. I came with the thought that I could win and I did it."
