Tadej Pogacar won the 2021 edition of Il Lombardia, without too much surprise after such a dominant season and a suiting profile. 2022 will be a different scenario however, with the Slovenian unable to repeat the same obbliteration, although he is nevertheless coming as a big contender to repeat his success.
Pogacar will be leading a strong UAE Team Emirates in the pursuit of this goal. He's finished second in the recent Giro dell'Emilia which may have been the biggest test for the contenders coming in, but won Tre Valli Varesine with a strong sprint. These two attributes may combine this Saturday, with a whole lot of climbing but a flat finish in Como.

Almeida will be well supported, with climbers João Almeida and Rafal Majka by his side, both of which have shown tremendous climbing performances this year. However, as is traditional, UAE will bring a heap of puncheurs and classics riders, all of which can thrive in such terrain. On their best day, Marc Hirschi and Alessandro Covi would also be candidates for the win here. Davide Formolo and Diego Ulissi complete the squad, riders who have recently also shown great form ahead of the race.
