Stefan Kung capped off his 2024 season with a commanding victory on Sunday in Les Herbiers, where he dominated the Chrono des Nations for the third time. The Swiss rider from Groupama-FDJ secured his third win of the season, showing he still has strong form even as late as October.
Over the challenging 45-kilometer course, Kung edged out Jay Vine by just a few seconds to take the win, marking the fifteenth victory of the year for Groupama-FDJ. This victory also adds to Kung's growing list of accomplishments, following his first Grand Tour stage win on stage 21 of the Vuelta a España in September.
Reflecting on his performance and the conclusion of a long season, Küng said in a press release from Groupama-FDJ: “It wasn't extremely easy to remobilize after the World Championship, but I'm a man of my word and I wanted to finish the season in style. But to do that, it was also necessary to prepare well. It's a time trial that suits me well, and it's the only one-day event for specialists apart from the championships. So it's also up to us, specialists, to come and do this event proud."
Kung expressed satisfaction with how he wrapped up his season, acknowledging both the highs and the challenges he faced throughout the year. “It's always good to finish with a victory and end the season on a high note. It's good for me, and good for the team. It was a long and demanding season, with big events throughout the year. There were some great things, but there were also more difficult moments with the approach of the Tour which was complicated, and which impacted my entire summer until the Olympic Games. I found my best level on the Vuelta, and finally won this victory on a Grand Tour. It's rather a good season."
As Kung reflects on his 2024 campaign, which included both triumphs and challenges, his strong finish at the Chrono des Nations sets a positive tone as he looks ahead to the next season.
