With the top of the Gran San Bernardo having been cut from the stage 13 profile due to an increased risk of avalanches, there is now talk of further adjustment being made to the stage.
According to reports being made by the local television station RTS, the other big test of the day, the ascent of the Croix de Cœur could be completely removed from the stage. Bad weather has of course plagued the Giro d'Italia so far this year and it's believed that the constant rainfall seen in the area may have made to climb too dangerous.
Due to the poor weather, the conditions of the road surface on the descent of the climb are of concern to race organisers and as such a last-minute, complete adaptation of the stage could be required. Thankfully though no further is predicted in the area meaning there is a ray of hope for the Croix de Cœur.
Work is ongoing to try and prepare the roads for the race but with stage 13 taking place tomorrow on the 19th of May, it could be a race against time.
