The Coppa Agostoni saw most of the top climbers battle it out on the day's hills to create a restrict group in the fight for the win. However, they were surprised by Alpecin-Deceuninck's Sjoerd Bax who was present in the front and won the final sprint.
Bax was the fastest out of the group of eight that surged through the climbs, to take his first pro win under surprising circumstances. He was joined in the podium by Alejandro Valverde and Andrea Piccolo.
