It is already known that Simon Yates is widely expected to leave Team Jayco AlUla when his contract expires at the end of the season. Now, it seems like the former Vuelta a Espana winner has found a new home.
According to reports by HLN, Yates could be off to Team Visma | Lease a Bike for 2025 and onwards, taking up a role of secondary leader behind Jonas Vingegaard and being chances of Grand Tour leadership in the Dane's absence.
Yates has so far spent the entirety of his career at Team Jayco AlUla, in it's various guises over the years. As mentioned, the Brit has proven Grand Tour winning capabilites as well after claiming the Red Jersey at the 2018 Vuelta a Espana. Yates has also come close to winning the Giro d'Italia on a number of occasions and finished 4th at the 2023 Tour de France, won by his potential future teammate, Jonas Vingegaard.
For the majority of his career, Yates has also been side by side with his brother Adam Yates. Although Adam has moved around a bit in recent years, riding for the INEOS Grenadiers and now UAE Team Emirates since leaving the Team Jayco AlUla set up, a move for Simon Yates to Team Visma | Lease a Bike would see the Yates' brothers in direct competition and as direct rivals as UAE Team Emirates and Team Visma | Lease a Bike fight for the right to call themselves the best team in the world.
Worth noting, Team Jayco AlUla have also reportedly already replaced Simon Yates. According to news first reported by GCN, Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team leader and star of season 2 of Netflix's Tour de France: Unchained, Ben O'Connor is heading to the Australian-based team as new Grand Tour leader for 2025 and beyond.
