The Giro d'Italia presentation was set to take place on the 12th of November, a few weeks after the Tour de France but with the full route announced and confirmed unlike the Grand Boucle. However there have been issues with the organization of the Grande Partenza in Albania, but this will not affect the teams' decisions.
The route is almost fully known, starting in Albania, moving to Italy after three stages and move through it's western half including a 'mini Strade Bianche' on stage 9 before moving to the Alps... Among others, there will be an ascent to the Colle delle Finestre and finale in Sestrière in the final days of the race. The Italian side of the race is, likely, all confirmed; but the organizers have delayed the presentation by two months - reportedly because of financial and road issues from the country that should host the start.
This could, on paper, affect plans largely. The new date should be in early January, but at this time most teams will have already decided on their main plans for the Grand Tours, whether the main riders will aim for the Tour de France or Giro d'Italia... Not knowing the route until that time would be very harmful for many people's plans. But according to Het Laatste Nieuws this will not happen as teams can contact the race organization and obtain details about the route so they can properly organize their plans.
Belgian news outlet Het Laatste Nieuws reported today: “Fans and media will not receive that information yet, but the teams can contact RCS in the coming weeks. They also know that riders cannot wait to draw up their race programme for next season. That is why the route information will already be released to the teams in broad outline. The details of the key stages are also known.”
