The official presentation of the route and profiles of the 2025 Giro d'Italia have been delayed and although their have been a number of reported reasons, one of those is that the race organisers are trying their best to lure Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Primoz Roglic and Remco Evenepoel.
For the Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader Vingegaard, an appearance at the Giro d'Italia in 2025 would mark a debut at the Italian Grand Tour for the two-time Tour de France winner and former runner-up at the Vuelta a Espana. Over recent seasons the Dane has been focused on the Tour de France, and with a new addition to his young family recently, would the proud family man take on all the rigours of a Giro d'Italia / Tour de France double next year?
Searching for answers about the speculation regarding Vingegaard and the 2025 Giro d'Italia, Ekstra Bladet got in contact with Team Visma | Lease a Bike spokesperson, Thijs Roelen. "It is too early," Roelen insists, pouring water on the flames. "We are in the middle of the process of setting the team's goals. It's a complicated puzzle."
"We have different captains and ambitions, and we want to continue making sports history as a team. That is always our goal," he continues, noting how, like everyone else, Team Visma | Lease a Bike are mostly in the dark about the postponement of the Giro parcours reveal and the possible route the Grand Tour could take in 2025. Like everyone else, we have found out that the presentation of the route is delayed. But we don't know anything about that either, and it's not up to us."
Spanish outlet AS have even reported with near certainty that Vingegaard and Visma have been sent a preview of the course in an attempt to peak interest. When pressed by Ekstra Bladet though, Roelen refuses to give anything away. "It is not something we can comment on," he concludes firmly.
