Richard Carapaz starts 2024 with huge expectations. The Ecuadorian cyclist is in Spain, taking part in the Gran Camino, where he is one of EF Education-Easypost's hopes of achieving a good result. The reigning Olympic champion gave an interview to the Lusa news agency where he spoke about his goals for this season.
Starting by talking about the Olympic Games, Carapaz wants to seize the opportunity to revalidate his title in Paris "Unfortunately, our country only has one place. That's my intention, to go there and try to do my best. I know it's very difficult to defend the title, but that's always in the back of my mind," confessed the 30-year-old Ecuadorian.
His team has specific plans for this year's Tour de France: "We're betting a lot on the Tour and we want to do very well and, inevitably, that will be our goal for the year," he said. "If I can get on the podium, it will be very special considering the category of our opponents".
Asked about his possible presence in Vuelta a Espana later this year, Carapaz was direct to say: "It will depend a lot on how I am after the Olympic Games, but if everything goes well, in principle, I'll be in Vuelta," he finish.
