Remco Evenepoel's father about his son's preparation: "Let's just say he's totally ready"

The next 3 weeks there will be high tension not only at Remco Evenepoel himself, but also at his loved ones. Over the past 10 days, Patrick Evenepoel has been a privileged witness of his son Remco Evenepoel's final preparations in Spain.

Father Patrick did not travel to Italy. He will only do that later, with his wife and Oumi, Remco's wife. "I occasionally send a WhatsApp message. We wish him luck for each stage. And then he replies with 1 or 2 fists. Then we know it's all right," Patrick told Sporza.

It is the second time for Evenepoel to start in the Giro, although we should not take that first time from 2021 seriously, says father Patrick. "Actually, he was then unable to finish that race. He was judged enormously afterwards, but that now stimulates Remco even more to take a shot at the podium."

"Everyone apparently thinks that Remco will just win the Giro for a while. Of course he will do everything he can, but I think it is about saying that his Giro would not have been successful if he did not win," Patrick denies that anything but overall victory will be automatically a failure for Remco. The World champion kicked off his race in style, taking a strong win on the opening time-trial.
