Remco Evenepoel fuming that Itzulia organisers allowed helmet socks: "We were no longer allowed to ride with the sock, but BORA - hansgrohe have worn it"

Chaos. Organization of the Itzulia Basque Country won't get A-marks for today's time trial. While Primoz Roglic was able to win despite missing going in wrong direction, Remco Evenepoel crashed in the first meters of the chrono. However what made him fuming was that UCI allowed his competitors to wear the 'helmet socks' while his team was told he cannot use it anymore.
"We were no longer allowed to ride with the sock. Those from BORA - hansgrohe have worn it. That the UCI website states that it is prohibited from April 2? We received an email confirming that the ban took effect from April 1. Because in Paris-Nice they had already said that it was the last time we were allowed to race in it. I don't think they know it themselves," said the Belgian at Het Nieuwsblad.
"If they tell us that it is no longer allowed from April 1, then we think that it is no longer allowed from April 1. And then they put it differently on the website," he continues indignantly. "We don't want to take the risk. It's weird, they do what they want. They start thinking of all kinds of things. This morning they came two hours before the start to say that the radios should be put back on the back," he concludes, referring to the fact that many riders have recently worn the radio on their chest for aerodynamic advantage.

Well I know he tends to moan but in this case he is correct. The UCI set rules then don't enforce them.
Erm, that’s basically hearsay. You are in no position to judge what happened at this point.
All you have is Judge Evenepoel retelling a story with no evidence to back anything up.
As with many pity stories that start off in the media, once you start seeing the details that come later, you realise everyone tells THEIR version as long as they cannot be confronted with questions and facts.
Firstly, why would THEY and no-one else receive this e-mail, did they send a request before the race, if so why did they need to if the info was available on the website, did they have doubts, was it unclear, can we see the exact wording of the messages in the original language, who exactly was it sent to, etc. ?
