Itzulia Basque Country organizers have created a very explosive and rather dangerous course for the opening day's time-trial and that was visible on the riders. Primoz Roglic missed the final corner, but his rival Remco Evenepoel wasn't better off as he crashed after only 20 seconds of racing.
The time-trial World Champion started off his effort and immediately, in a very technical section, slipped off and crashed. It was not a rough tumble, but it cost him important seconds which prevented him from reaching Roglic's time. He was also visibly upset at the fall and carried some abrasions from it.
