Taking place in Italy for the first time in the race's 120-year history, the Tour de France will begin in Florence in 2024 and the organizers have revealed the route and profiles of the three stages in Emilia-Romagna.
The race organisers further revealed the layout of the first three stages. It will be a long journey from Florence to the coastal town of Rimini in the first stage. The stage is built for climbers. The peloton will have to climb a total of 3,800 meters in altitude.
The route passes through the Ponte a Ema, the birthplace of cycling legend Gino Bartali. During the second stage, riders will travel from Cesenatico to Bologna. It’s hilly and consists of four climbs in the last sixty kilometres.
Piacenza is the starting point, and Turin is the finishing point for the third stage. Sprinters benefit greatly from the stage. Even though there are three small hills on the route, the riders shouldn't have much trouble. A noteworthy detail is that stages are longer than usual. The first stage is 205 kilometres long, the second is 200 kilometres, and the third is 225 kilometres long.
