On the 28th of September the women's peloton has one of it's most important races of the year. The rainbow jersey will be attributed in Zurich; where the World Championships course will favour the climbers and classics specialists. We preview the race ahead.
The race will start in the city of Uster and will feature a total of 154 kilometers; with 2250 meters of climbing. Whilst the first 25 kilometers are flat, the race will be decided in the four-lap circuit that the riders tackle in and around Zurich which features two ascents.
The first is 700 meters long at 8.4% and summits with 23.5 kilometers to go; and after a very small descent comes the main climb of the day which goes into the town of Witikon (1.4Km at 7.2%) which ends with 20 kilometers to go.
What follows is a plateau section for several kilometers where there can be more attacks, or groups uniting to create the difference before eventually descending into Zurich. There will be a small uphill ramp, but it is mostly a downhill into the finish. Only the final 2.5 kilometers will be flat.
