The Brussels Cycling Classic is set for June 2nd this year, marking one of Belgium's prestigious classics during this period. It offers a prime opportunity for classics specialists to excel. Let's preview the race ahead.
The race is long with 214.5 kilometers on the menu, and it is one that is hard to predict. Most of the race is rather flat, and understandibly many of the sprinters are amongst the big favourites - some of them also having a lot of experience in the classics.
However they puncheurs and classics experts have opportunities to blow the race to bits. The riders climb the Muur de Geraardsbergen (1.1Km; 7%), Bosberg (1Km; 5.4%) and the Congoberg (600 meters; 5.6%), all cobbled, in quick succession on two occasions. The final ascent of these finishes with 47 kilometers to go. There is a short cobbled sector and a berg already inside the final 15 kilometers where more attacks may come; it certainly won't be an easy day to control.
