Peter Sagan infected with Covid-19 again in sight of Tour de France

Peter Sagan has once again been infected with Covid-19. After having contracted it in February 2021 and January 2022, the Slovakian sprinters has once again been caught, just after returning to good form at the Tour de Suisse.

Sagan is only one more victim of the outbreak that's ongoing at the Tour de Suisse which has taken several riders and teams out of the race. He has quote many difficulties in recovering form in his first half of the season due to a Covid infection, and only this week in Switzerland did he manage to return to his winning ways - and a competitive level.

With less than two weeks to the start of the Tour de France this could spell chaos for the TotalEnergies rider. Albeit the quarintine periods are shorter, at the very least this will cause a disturbance in his preparation and put a major obstacle in his logistics into the race. The consequences of the illness may also pose an issue, specially as his stint earlier in the year severely disrupted his season.

Sagan has taken back motivation after winning the third stage of the race, in an unexpected bunch sprint. This sudden surge of form and motivation came just in time for the Tour, where he was now to be expected to be a contender for stage wins and perhaps the green jersey. All those plans are now on hold, and possible finished.
