Having long been known as a time-trial specialist, Stefan Küng once again proved his expertise in the discipline on stage 4 of the Volta ao Algarve, finishing 3rd.
"First time-trial of the year so it's always difficult," reflected the Swiss star of Groupama - FDJ in his post-stage interview. "Either you feel it right away or you don't. Today the feeling was good but not exceptional. But yeah, for the first test it's okay."
Although perhaps not totally convinced by his own performance, Kung as mentioned, finished third on the day with only Magnus Sheffield and time-trial world champion, Remco Evenepoel being able to better the 30-year-old.
"It was a really tricky time-trial. There is often gravel on the course and as it's the first one of the season I was not willing to take big risks," he continues. "One or two corners for sure, I lost a few seconds. Overall it's good. I'm on the right track, but we can still improve."
