Kooij has already taken impressive victories this year at the ZLM Tour, 4 Jours de Dunkerque and Paris-Nice alongside finishing 2nd at the Classic Brugge-De Panne. “In recent years we have always taken logical steps in my competition program. We will do the same again in the next two years," he continues. "I want to keep winning sprints, but last spring I also showed that I can compete in certain spring classics. I want to develop further in those two areas.”
Merijn Zeeman, Jumbo-Visma's sports manager also commented, laying out some of the big plans he has for Kooij over the coming two years. “With Olav we have big goals and that means he will make his debut next year in a big round. In addition to sprinting at the top level, he also has opportunities in the classics. It fits perfectly in our classic strategy.”
“We are very happy and proud that Olav will stay with our team. In recent months we have had intensive discussions about Olav's sporting future with our team. We honestly discussed the possibilities and impossibilities with each other," Zeeman continues. "Everyone knows the strength of our team and our group of riders. Together we reason from our result goals, but the development of our riders also plays an important role in this. I am very happy that Olav agrees with our philosophy.”
