For the fifth time in his career,
Caleb Ewan is set to ride the
Tour de France. With five stage wins already under his belt at the race, the Australian sprinter is keen to add another to his Palmares.
"I'm really looking forward to it and hopefully I can take a stage win," the 28-year-old
Lotto Dstny sprinter tells In de Leidestrui, before explaining how the Green Jersey and the points classification is not his primary goal. "Not for now. In the first instance, I will focus on performing in certain stages, although that could change during the race."
The Aussie hasn't enjoyed the best of years so far in 2023, with just the one win, at the Van Merksteijn Fences Classic. That poor form alongside some bad luck, as seen at the recent Baloise Belgium Tour means he heads to the Tour de France with a point to prove.
"I look back on this calendar year quite positively, but it is of course disappointing if you very often just don't win. Of course, every time I don't win, it's one too many. However, I'm happy with my form, so I'm going to the next races with confidence," he maintains. "If it doesn't work out, I'll soon be thinking about the next opportunity. So I have little problem with that. And certainly not when I feel good about myself, like now."
