Giving it all. A gutsy ride by @KNiewiadoma who finished second on the stage. 👏👏
Katarzyna Niewiadoma put up a brave fight on the final stage of the Tour de Suisse Women. Despite claiming back some time and finishing 2nd on the stage, Niewiadoma was unable to take overall win.
“To be honest, having Marlen Reusser and Demi Vollering behind you, two huge engines, I knew that I would have to be lucky," the 28-year-old Canyon//SRAM Racing star revealed post-stage. "If they would puncture or something would happen, but of course you never wish anything like that on your opponent. So I was hoping that maybe their legs would blow up because it was really hot today, and I felt like I was cramping, so I was hoping that maybe others would as well.”
At one point, Niewiadoma was the virtual leader on the road, but as she began to tire, and Reusser made a big effort to try and close the gap, Niewiadoma was forced to settle for 4th place in the final general classification.
“I enjoyed the racing here. After the ITT, I felt disappointed because I knew that I had good legs," she recaps. "I just had a bad day that day. I am happy that I was able to come around and play a nice role in the race."
