Nairo Quintana has ended the speculation regarding his future in the professional peloton. The diminutive Colombian climber will remain with Movistar Team for at least one more year it has been officially announced.

"Hello friends, I want to tell you that it's already the end of the season, but above all that it's a special moment for me because I want to tell you that I'm still with the Movistar Team skin for 2025. So let's enjoy as we have done this year, we hope it will be an even better year for us and see you on the road, see you on TV," commented a happy Nairo on the networks of the Movistar Team.

The 34-year-old climber is in his second spell at Movistar, after the one he spent between 2012 and 2019. That one was much more successful, when he was one of the most promising cyclists in the world. In the current one, he arrived in 2024 and his best result has been a second place in a stage of the Giro d'Italia.

He will share the team next year with three compatriots: Fernando Gaviria, Einer Rubio and the 19-year-old Diego Pescador. He is no longer the Nairo of a few seasons ago, fighting for the grand tours, but he can bring experience and wisdom to those who need it most. Also, as he showed in the last Giro, he can still catch a good breakaway on a mountain day and try to try to get a stage win. Especially if Tadej Pogacar is not in the race.

It has not been an easy 2024 for Nairo, with physical problems from the beginning, suffering Covid in the Tour Colombia. Then, a crash in the Volta and the Itzulia meant he couldn't prepare well for the Giro and another crash in Burgos meant he didn't arrive well at the Vuelta. Despite this, as we said, he was not bad in the Giro and in the Vuelta he worked as hard as he could for Enric Mas. If he continues with the same legs and the bad luck goes away, he can surely contribute much more.
