Patrick Lefevere's sudden announcement of retirement from the role of team manager at Soudal - Quick-Step made the headlines earlier this week. The Wolfpack had tremendous success under the Belgian's reign but the beginning of 2020s brough around many changes in the hierarchy with the team radically shifting focus from classics the general classifications. After few mediocre years, Lefevere is able to say he's leaving on top with double Olympic gold medals for his team's leader Remco Evenepoel.

It will now be up to Jürgen Foré, Lefevere's successor, to lead the team. "Patrick will always be there (Lefevere will remain involved as an honorary member of the new management, editor's note) if I need his advice," he said in a chat with Cyclism'Actu. "We are ready to take on the challenge and make the coming year a great success."

Foré thus succeeds one of the most iconic managers in the peloton. "Is it intimidating to replace him? Yes, of course. These are big shoes to fill. He is a strong personality. Quick-Step will always be his team," he says. "I will do everything to lead the team to success. But I will do it my way. I am not a copy of Patrick. However, he will remain a valuable resource for me."

What are Foré's goals for the future? "It's about improving the little details. We're moving forward step by step: identifying what's wrong, improving and continuing." On the other hand, his work will begin without Remco Evenepoel, who is currently convalescing. "We hope he recovers quickly. We miss him and we hope he'll be back soon."

Foré is optimistic about the future: "Zdenek Bakala (the team's majority shareholder, editor's note) assured us that he would continue to invest. We are not afraid of the future. We embrace everything that awaits us. Everyone puts their own personality into their way of leading. I will continue on the solid foundations that Patrick has established," he concluded.
