No return in sight for Juan Ayuso as tendinitis lingers: "Until we have the security of a training base, we will not define his calendar"

A tendinitis is wreaking havoc in Juan Ayuso's season. After a brilliant 2022 campaign, the 20-year old is facing his first big challenge in what should be a big pro career, and he is yet to start racing in 2023 due to a lingering injury.

"Until we have the security of a training base, we will not define his calendar," Matxin told AS. The honest and direct reply indicates there is yet no improvement. He's had to postpone his start to the season earlier in the year, as the health problem was identified still in January. Inbetween he had some gentle training, but so far there are yet no news or hints to when he may restart racing, and little information on his training situation.

Last season Ayuso finished on the Top5 of the Volta a Catalunya and the Tour de Romandie, has obtained his first pro win at the Circuito de Getxo and went on to finish third at his Grand Tour debut at the Vuelta a Espana at the age of 19 - resembling his own teammate Tadej Pogacar's upbringing.

As his main goal this year has been set out to be the Vuelta once again the injury doesn't yet threaten his big goals, but tension accumulates. The spring seems to be out of the picture for the time being, but according to team sources the Tour de Suisse is possible to see a return from the Spaniard.
