Following his victory on the second stage of the
Itzulia Basque Country,
Ide Schelling had some choice words for the
UCI and the race organisers over the perceived dangerousness of the run in to the line.
David Gaudu, third on the stage, agrees.
"We're not going to hide it, it was a bit of a shameful finale. It's frankly more than the limit to make a final like that on a race, whether it's an Amateur or WorldTour race. A turn 75 meters from the finish, switchbacks... Anyway, it wasn't great," agreed Gaudu before turning his attention to his own impressive performance.
"Afterwards, we still had to be there not to take any breaks, we did it well. We even pocketed a bonus second with my third place," says Gaudu who now lies in third on the overall standing at the the Itzulia Basque Country. "It's a shame not to have won but it is like that. I turned third, I stayed third, there was not much more I could do."
"The team worked very well today to put me in the best conditions, thank you to them," he adds before concluding. "These were a bit strange days, but things weren't going too badly, in any case much better than yesterday!"
