Dutch coaches announced their lineups for upcoming European Championships which will take place on popular VAM-berg site in Drenthe. The women team will be very ambitious with Demi Vollering and Lorena Wiebes as their leaders, while men team locks a rather modest selection lead by Olav Kooij.
"The climbs are steep and come in quick succession. But the weather can certainly also be a factor, especially on the approach loop but also on the outside circuit that you always drive before you start your climb again. There are many different scenarios possible for the road race and it is certainly an advantage that we have a strong selection across the board," national coach Loes Gunnewijk says.
Dutch Women lineup for European Championships:
Lorena Wiebes, Demi Vollering (also ITT), Riejanne Markus (also ITT), Shirin van Anrooij, Mischa Bredewold, Loes Adegeest, Floortje Mackaij and Yara Kastelijn

"For us, the European Championships are a home match on largely familiar territory because the National Championships held here. I expect an intensive last part of the race with short, explosive climbs that keep recurring. I expect that there is a chance that there will be a sprint for the title by a significantly thinned out peloton, but also that small leading groups will emerge that may stay away until the end," coach Koos Moerenhout adds.
Dutch Men lineup for European Championships:
Olav Kooij, Marijn van den Berg, Nils Eekhoff, Sjoerd Bax (also ITT), Bauke Mollema, Mike Teunissen. Elmar Reinders and Daan Hoole (also ITT)
