During the first days of the
Vuelta a Espana the Dane had stomach issues but kept details close to the team and not to the outside. During one of the early stages of the race, he reveals that he had to stop during a stage for the same reason his former teammate had. "During the Tour de France there would probably have been a few cameras filming it, but luckily that wasn't the case here. It just happened during the broadcast, but I don't think anyone noticed."
"It is the first time in a cycling race that I have had this kind of problem. Usually I go through a race without illness, but not this time. After what I went through, I'm glad I didn't abandon it. I'm glad that the fifth stage was an uneventful ride. If that hadn't been the case, I could have lost my ranking there already," he concluded. Vingegaard enters the final week of the Vuelta in third place, as
Jumbo-Visma look to break several historic achievements.
